Audition Information for 2018 - 2019 School Year Students are required to audition for acceptance in
Concert (5 period - Sub Non-Varsity B) Philharmonic (6 period - Sub Non-Varsity A) Symphony (2 period - Non-Varsity) Chamber (4 period - Varsity)
Incoming 9th Grade students who do not wish to audition will be placed in the Camerata Orchestra (1 period). All Cy-Fair Orchestra students are required to audition for their final exam. Students will be ranked on 200 point scale and orchestras will be formed based on the instrumentation needs of each ensemble. Other considerations such as eligibility, citizenship, and attendance will also be weighed when determining final orchestra placements. (AUDITION RUBRIC can be downloaded at the bottom of this page)
The audition process will consist of the following:
Scale (50 points total) Students will have the option of performing either 2 or 3 octaves. (See AUDITION RUBRIC link below)
Orchestra Excerpts (50 points total) Students will perform two orchestra excerpts. One excerpt will be selected from our Sub Non-Varsity A Orchestra - PHILHARMONIC repertoire and the Non-Varsity Orchestra - SYMPHONY repertoire.
Sight-Reading (25 points total) Please review these musical elements prior to Sight-Reading audition: D major Whole, Half, Quarter, Eighth, and Sixteenth Notes Triplets Dotted Rhythms Hooked Bowings Slurs Dynamics Staccato and Legato Bowing
2018 - 2019 TMEA All-State/Region Etude CUTS (50 points) Cuts from the 2018-2019 TMEA Etudes will be included in the audition process. Please check back May 1st at 3:30 p.m. for etude selections.
